In woodworking, a rip-cut is a sort of lower that severs or divides a bit of wooden parallel to the grain. The other typical type of lower is a cross-lower, a lower perpendicular to the grain. Unlike cross-slicing, which shears the wooden fibers, a rip noticed works more like a sequence of chisels, lifting off small splinters of wooden.
